Myths about House Sitting Jobs
By Ben Waterworth

With any jobs, there are often myths surrounding them. This is no different with house sitting jobs. Here are some common myths about the job to ease your mind!

House sitting workers never get paid

This is sometimes untrue, and you will find that some owners will offer you some form of allowance for food and other items during your stay. You will need to check with the owners before you commence your job as a house sitter to see if they offer any payment.

There will be times you are not alone with owners still home
The reason you are house sitting is because the owners cannot be home. So this is completely untrue! If the owners were to be home you would considered a nanny or au pair. Usually these professions involve looking after children and don’t usually require somebody to stay when the house is empty. If there is any exception to this, the owners will tell you prior.

House sitting is an easy job with nothing much to do
You will always be busy as a house sitter, believe us when we say that! You will be in charge of caring for the entire house as well as looking after the plants, animals and everything else that makes the house special! While you may find yourself with a bit of down time from time to time, you will usually always have something to do! Never get lazy with the job!

I will get free internet and phone calls

This is entirely up to the home owner, and usually you will find it will be your responsibility to track the calls you make and the internet usage you have. Sometimes they will leave everything connected for you and give you limited usage, but always check this with the owners beforehand. This is essential so you don’t give them a massive bill on their return home!
