House Sitter
House Sitter Emergency
What to do in a house sitting emergency!
There are times during your house sitter's job that you won’t be able to avoid emergencies. These are unfortunately something that happen from time to time.
House sitters need to ensure that they know what to do though when these happen. Before the home owner leaves you in control you should make sure you have all the proper emergency contacts at your disposal. This will ensure that if the worst happens you will be able to know who to contact.
You should also make sure you are told of any potential dangers and things that can go wrong. If there is a leaky pipe that may break, you should be told. Same with any electrical appliances that potentially may be of a danger to you if you don’t use them correctly. You must know the house rules, especially those regarding storm safety and fire safety. In case you are working as a house pet sitter, make sure you know what to do in case there is a snake bite or infection from fruit bat droppings.
Other things that you should be told about is when to contact certain services in certain events. There may be a very leaky pipe that you think requires a plumber, but it may just need a day’s rest or something similar to prevent a large plumbing bill. Same with veterinarian costs.
If any of the animals you are looking after have any issues, you should be told about them to prevent any confusion that can bring a large bill to the owners on their return. If possible get a contact number of where the owners are going so that you can always check with them if something presents itself you are unsure about.
Even a mobile number that you can send a text message, or email service. These will prevent you from making a decision that may anger the owner when they return. You can never be too safe in a house that isn’t your own and you can never get too much information in looking after a place.
Ask as many questions as you can to always bring yourself up to speed and never take anything for granted. You will have a happy owner on their return and house sitting will be much easier for yourself!
